Eva Van Bemmelen explores the deepest layers and boundaries of language through her multidisciplinary art practice. Drawing on her background in graphic design, she questions the structures and conventions of rules, letters, books, and typography. In her work, language is not merely a means of communication, but becomes a physical and spatial experience.
By deconstructing and rebuilding books and literary signs, new meanings and unexpected interpretations emerge. Typographic symbols and human figures seamlessly merge in her paintings and installations: an m becomes a caterpillar, while a g appears to her as intertwined bodies. In this way, her work unfolds as a poetic navigation of human interaction, where language can be both familiar and estranging.
Eva’s work invites us not only to read language, but to experience it — and to look differently at what we think we understand.
