Dorothea Dejonckheere
Painter, graphic artist, ° 1993
Lives and works in Antwerp (BE)
Dorothea’s paintings give voice to emotions. Whether they are the artist’s own or those of the viewer, she paints from the gut and gives form to life choices, events or experiences. These are expressed through various textures and colours, giving rise to unexpected organic shapes. Her paintings allow the viewer to decide for themselves how they experience a painting, what they see. The viewer is invited to regard the artworks as a kind of mirror. Her canvases convey what cannot be expressed in words.
Dejonckheere has been fascinated by drawing and collecting from a young age. She spent her days with pencil and paper. Her collection of drawings continued to grow, serving as a source of inspiration and stories. When she moved from Lichtervelde to Antwerp at the age of 18, she began studying free graphics at the Academy of Fine Arts. She took up painting two years ago.
For her, art is a way of understanding the world around her and learning to let go.
