Matthieu Claus is an artist and art teacher at a secondary school. He mainly works in oil paint and/or acrylic paint on canvas.His paintings are fictional landscapes composed of images he takes at industrial scrap yards. During his visits to these scrap yards, the artist takes hundreds of photographs, which he carefully stores in his digital archive. These photographs form an almost unlimited source of inspiration for his paintings.
In his early work, the artist was mainly looking for a geometrically shaped visual language—of which this painting is an example. His more recent canvases, on the other hand, contain more organic forms and have a layered background. The artist often uses a pattern to add rhythm and a repetitive element. This makes these paintings more lyrical, less architectural, but more abstract.
