Lives and works in Antwerp (BE)
Eliza Pepermans has long been praised for the imaginative and daring drawing style of her newspaper illustrations. Currently she is already focusing more and more on her own artistic and large work. She draws and paints still lifes, the everyday objects that got to the artist’s attention. Can a simple still life be a world view? Can it depict the human condition? She seems to be finding it out by portraying cans and pitchers, a checkered tablecloth, tomatoes and a garlic bulb, a vase of flowers… With bright colors and soft tones, mildly coarse energetic and a hint of sadness. Outlined contours give it something graphic, but the still lifes gracefully move towards painting.
