Lives and works in Ghent (BE)

Lien Buysens got her Master’s degree in Fine Arts from Sint-Lucas in Ghent. In her award-winning graduation project, she combined text, imagery, typography, and graphic design. This focus on design still plays an important role in her work today.

In a playful and exploratory manner, she investigates the relationship between idea and image, and between what is visible and what is merely suggested. Her work often originates from everyday domestic objects found in her familiar surroundings, such as jugs, bowls, flowers, and kitchen utensils. While these objects are recognizable to everyone, Lien transforms them into lines, colors, and almost abstract forms.

By collecting, organizing, repeating, and combining shapes, she creates a sense of calm and attentiveness. In doing so, she blurs the boundary between idea, sketch, and finished artwork. The result is a series of quiet, ambiguous images in which the everyday becomes both familiar and surprisingly abstract.
