Hans Everaert

The paintings of Hans Everaert are characterized by a focus on the basic, underlying materiality of things. His work evokes a certain movement, dragged away from the figurative. The result is a 'false' sense of abstraction. It is not the artist's intention to paint a clear theme: his paintings can be seen as "inner landscapes". Starting from a picture (a mountain, a village, a building or a specific room), he switches from abstraction to figuration without an emphasis on the one nor the other.
