Josse De Maesschalck

Josse De Maesschalck holds a degree in Applied Visual Arts and in audiovisual techniques. As a screenwriter and director he mainly wants to tell stories inspired by his childhood memories and a nostalgic past. This melancholic inspiration is also reflected in the paintings of this young artist. His canvases look like painted backgrounds or filmsets. They are apparently naively painted sets for the local village's theater company. He pictures the simple everyday life. His paintings are no surreal landscapes in a sweet color palette. Josse De Maesschalck shows an interpretation of his own memory, to the extent that it determined his vision and experience of the world as a young adult.
