Pieter-Jan Martyn’s paintings are usually built-up in series. The series are created by a fascination of the artist for an historical event or an historical figure. His subjects (Nuremberg processes, JFK, RAF terror …)are often loadedand the historical figures stand alone or are part of a group portrait. The artist paints in his own typical style: a chosen image is put on canvas, it is painted over in grays and whites ​​with an occasional touch of green or bluwhich fades the original image. The weighty nature of the image is removed and its historical context suddenly changes.
