Wim Jans

Painter, ° 1960

Lives and works in Brussels

At the start of his artistic career in the late 1980s, Wim Jans focused on anatomical illustrations, which he edited with early digital graphic programms; humans were central to his early work.
In his current works, the artist focuses more on the residential function of human beings. The security every individual longs for is re-imagined using digital printing techniques. But each painting is given an extra layer of warmth – and thus security – in the form of a layer of Armenian clay. Wim Jans applies this rust-coloured material over the image in sepia. The earthy colours refer to the earth, the mother who offers protection, the reproduction of life, the blood.
